Position Summary: Open Progress Text Troop is seeking interns to join our team for the 2020 campaign. These are paid, remote positions that can be based anywhere in the continental U.S. Part-time and full-time openings are currently available. This is a great opportunity to get involved early in the election season!

You are 18 or older and have a passion for listening and connecting with voters on important issues and campaigns.
You may or may not be in school, pursuing a degree, or have a degree. It’s not required.
You have access to a reliable desktop or laptop computer. (Our system doesn’t work on a smartphone!)
You can commit no less than 40 hours per week to saving democracy for a full-time internship, and no less than 20 hours per week for a part-time internship.
You want to build connections with other like-minded progressives around the US.
You adapt well to new technology and are a self-starter willing to teach yourself new software platforms.
You’re into the idea of working and communicating remotely with your teammates using programs like Slack for chat and Asana for project management.
You can work independently and are a natural problem solver but are also comfortable asking questions when you get stuck.
You are determined; you don’t stop until you get the information you need until your voter’s questions are answered, or until your volunteers have what they need to do their best work.
You believe in the power of conversation and connection to change hearts and minds.
Building texting campaigns inside TextOut
Reviewing and approving texting assignments inside TextOut
Providing quality, actionable feedback to our volunteer inside TextOut so that they can up their texting game
Making sure every client, volunteer, or voter’s experience is a successful one
Moderating the Text Troop Slack team (it’s our virtual campaign office), which includes helping our volunteer texters with questions and ensuring our texters are following our protocols for responding to voter questions.
Assisting on the writing of texting scripts, training materials and other volunteer learning materials
Texting our fellow citizens on behalf of progressive candidates running in statewide, state legislative, and municipal and local elections.
Texting in support of issue advocacy
Open Progress is a not-for-profit (c4) that was formed in the wake of the 2016 Presidential election. Since 2017, our volunteers were active in more than 250 races and ballot initiatives nationwide. We’re going to have even more impact in 2020, with your help!
The Open Progress Text Troop is a diverse community of committed volunteers from across the country who are engaging in issue-focused conversations with voters via person-to-person text messages. Here’s some of the work we do:

Encourage citizens across the country, whether English or Spanish-speaking, to register to vote
Persuade and identify their support for our causes and candidates
Help voters find their polling locations
Our volunteers are trained by the best in order to create rich conversations with a better-informed electorate.
