Data Analyst for Voter Participation Center
The Voter Participation Center (VPC) is a results-oriented 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to mobilizing under-represented populations that are vulnerable to diminished political representation – particularly unmarried women, people of color, and young people. The VPC works to make our democracy more representative by engaging these groups through mail-based voter registration, voter turnout, issue education, election protection, and related activities. We use a data-driven, model-targeted approach that leverages repeated randomized controlled trials (field experiments) to measure our impact and identify the most effective tactics. In addition to mail, we run supplemental programs using phone, email, social media, and online advertising. Since 2012, VPC’s programs generated more than 1.4 million voter registration applications.
The data analyst will help develop and execute a strategic data-driven research program supporting VPC’s mission to increase the civic participation of historically underrepresented groups in our democracy. The analyst will be a key part of a small but ambitious analytics team and expected to contribute to all aspects of the analytics team’s work.
VPC has over a decade of experience in evidence-based civic engagement and is a leader in individual-level voter registration targeting. We hold out control groups for every feasible program and rigorously evaluate everything we do. Every election cycle we identify and solve unique problems in an effort to consistently improve our ability to engage people not currently on a voter file.
The analyst will contribute to a range of data projects, including developing and managing databases, reporting, research, testing, analysis, and predictive modeling. Data analysts are expected to contribute to organizational strategy and must be able to communicate clearly and effectively about technical topics. Data analysts should be detail-oriented, flexible, and self-directed problem solvers.
A talented data analyst will help us expand our scope and increase our efficiency as our work continues to grow. Looking forward the analytics team will improve our data management, develop new tools for reporting and data visualization, evaluate existing predictive models, help build new predictive models, and conduct innovative research. Data is the foundation of everything VPC does and this is a great opportunity to contribute to innovative and important civic engagement work.
