Department: Campaigns Team Type: Full Time Min. Experience: Experienced
UltraViolet is a powerful and rapidly growing community of people from all walks of life mobilized to fight sexism and expand women’s rights, from politics and government to media and pop culture. UltraViolet works on a range of issues including health care, economic security, violence, reproductive rights, racial justice, and immigration by putting the voices of all women, especially women of color and LGBTQ women, front and center.

We’re looking for a Technology Director to work with our campaigns team to leverage tech tools that will help UltraViolet’s members advance the cause of women’s equality.

With more than 650,000 members across every state and congressional district, we make our voices heard to further the cause of full equality, empower women, and fight attacks on women’s rights. Since our launch in early 2012, millions have spoken out in favor of fair pay, equal representation, and health care, and protested against the far-right’s attempts to control women’s health and lives. We’ve successfully campaigned to get Facebook to add the first woman to its corporate board, got more than a hundred advertisers to drop The Rush Limbaugh Show, pushed Reebok to withdraw its sponsorship of rapper Rick Ross due to his sexually violent lyrics, and successfully pressured authorities in Steubenville, Ohio to indict four school administrators for covering up the now-infamous rape of a teenage girl.

Equality at a higher frequency is what we’re all about.

Responsibilities: The Technology Director plays a central role in the daily functioning of UltraViolet. In this role, you will be working with UltraViolet’s campaigns team to fulfill each day’s urgent campaign needs, such as trouble shooting mass email and website problems, and also experimenting with new designs or features on the fly. In addition, you’ll work on building new tools and testing new ways to use technology to engage UltraViolet’s membership.

This is a fast-paced job for an expert programmer. You’ll be the first line of defense for technical questions from UltraViolet’s campaign staff and a crucial part of our rapid response team.

This position is focused on two areas

    Direct Support of Campaign Staff
Be intimately familiar with UltraViolet’s CRM, ActionKit, and website backend.

Respond to emergency technical requests focused on UltraViolet’s ActionKit instance.

Support the campaigns team with short-term technical requests.

Use SQL to perform analyses of UltraViolet’s database.

Technical Project Design, Building, and Management
Design, build, and test new tools to engage UltraViolet’s members.

Manage UltraViolet’s technical consultants overall and on specific project design and implementation.

Work with campaign staff to develop specifications for short and medium term technical projects.

Manage new tool testing and Q/A.

    Requirements

Two to five years of experience in web development, with a front-end, UI focus.

Fluency in HTML, CSS, SQL, and JavaScript.

Experience with working with APIs (RESTFUL or XML RPC).

Able to track a lot of moving parts and manage complex projects. A razor-sharp attention to detail.

Experience with agile development processes with rapid prototype release schedules.

Able to work very closely with other members of the team, but also able to manage your work independently.

Strong communication skills. Since UltraViolet is a virtual organization, we depend heavily on written and telephone communication to coordinate internally.

Comfortable with a virtual office. Able to communicate well in conference calls, instant messaging, and email.

    Not required, but bonuses

    Understanding of ActionKit and Django.

    Q/A testing experience.

    Political or advocacy experience.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and skills. Competitive benefits package.
