Job Description: SDAN is looking for hourly statistician support to assist its team of 2 PhD social scientists in conducting and releasing rigorous research. The statistician will be asked to consult on statistical analysis of experimental and correlational/archival data both in the planning and analysis stages of experiments and studies, on an ad hoc basis, up to ten-fifteen (10-15) hours a month. A successful candidate will be someone who is a creative problem-solver who enjoys using their skillset in a meaningful way with a deep understanding of hypothesis testing. This position is ideal for graduate students specializing in statistics, people with advanced degrees in statistics, people with advanced degrees in the social sciences like social psychology or political science with advanced statistical expertise, or people with equivalent experience/knowledge in conducting research with advanced statistical models in other fields/at other levels of education.

Good fit:

Very strong understanding of linear/logistic regression (including moderated/mediated regression).
Strong understanding of effect size, statistical power, confidence intervals, and assumptions for various statistical modeling techniques.
Some understanding of multilevel modeling, factor analysis, meta-analysis, and structural equation modeling.
Experience cleaning, analyzing, and interpreting experimental data from a raw dataset through to a final report.
Ability to fully and deeply communicate statistical analyses you conduct or reports you create to the SDAN research team (PhD level researchers with a background in statistics).
Strong work ethic and the ability to work unsupervised.
Strong communication skills and a desire to work with a great remote team.

Helpful:

Proficient in STATA statistical software.
Knowledge of Python or R.
Passion for fair representation, voting rights, and civic engagement in the political process.

This position is remote and does not require travel. It requires a reliable internet connection and a computer. This is an ongoing part time hourly position with work based on availability of data or new research protocols. As our analyses are often dependent on voter information releases, some months may not require any work. SDAN is committed to working with the consultant to ensure as much lead time on projects as possible and to plan deliverable timelines around the consulting party’s schedule. Pay will be $35 an hour.

To apply, please email a short cover letter (no more than 2 paragraphs), a CV/resume, and an example research report (ideally of a regression analysis but can be any type of analysis listed above) that you have created to careers@sisterdistrict.com with the subject line “Hourly statistician application.” If you are unable to share a research report you have created in another capacity, SDAN can provide you with data to use to write a short report to communicate ability and understanding.

People of color, people with disabilities, women and non-binary candidates, and LGBTQA+ candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
